The Space

The Space The old barn is set in the centre of an AONB conservation area, two fields away from where the river thames wraps around the chilterns, a unique area of the chilterns that has the benefit of the hills and valleys as well as the thames wrapping around it, and encircled by the riverside towns of Wallingford, dorchester-on-thames, Henley-on-thames, goring & Streatley, pangbourne, whitchurch-on-thames and sonning-on- thames , great for a romantic break from a stressed busy life or big city, a cultural break or a relaxed walking , golfing , painting, horse riding or cycling holiday , there is of couse boating and fishing on the river Thames, if you want to stop off the world for a while, friends call it the sanctuary ! also useful if in the area for meetings or conferences and need somewhere to stay, fully fitted kitchen so self catering if you prefer and totally self contained, but house keeping services if needed

Guest Access

Accommodation - comprises the whole upper main vaulted and beamed floor of the barn which feels very light and airy, with fresh cut flowers in the sitting room area and amazing views across open chiltern countryside has a continental style with french greys and creams, open vaulted limed oak and elm beams give a cheerful calm relaxed feel, and makes a self contained private apartment, with its own entrance, comprising of two bedrooms , two en suite bathrooms also with baths and power showers, a central sitting room area and kitchen,

Groceries - I,m very interested in organic farming and local produce, all the farm land around the barn has gone organic, and conscious of the journey you might have made to get here, i always leave in the barn, fresh loose tea (there`s a nice china tea pot) and fresh organic bread, for tea and toast for your arrival, there`s also fresh organic butter, organic honey and malt whisky marmalade, organic milk, organic eggs and organic biscuits , so you can just stop and relax and recentre yourself

Beds & Bedding - its one of the most important aspects of your stay, so with sensitive consideration, the beds are new King size large 5ft wide handmade, hand tufted, Organic lambswool and organic cotton quality 3000 individual pocket sprung divan double beds, being totally natural they support you really well and allow air to circulate, to give a better night sleep. the crisp white bed linen, sheets, duvets and pillow cases are 100% percale cotton linen, which allow air to circulate and you feel more comfortable as natural, and there is a 4.5 tog duvet and 9.5 tog duvet set for each bed, which along with the three pillows per side are all goose and down feather for more comfort and they also allow air to circulate for a deeper natural sleep. All the fresh white towels along with four extra large toweling spa robes are natural 100% cotton as well,

The accomodation works really well for a couple who want to spread out across two bedrooms, and benifit from separate bathrooms, or two friends on a walking holiday needing separate bedrooms-en-suite, or a couple and one or two children if the children don`t mind sharing a large double bed or two separate couples, any other guest combination please message me first before booking so we can make sure we can accommodate your needs, thanks

Interaction with Guests

as the barn is accessed through a shingled courtyard, surrounded by high trees and hedging, guests can enjoy a discreet and private stay, we like to show you were everything is on your arrival, then leave you to it, but only a phone call away if needed

The Neighbourhood

The chilterns are known for amazing walks, rambles and hill top views, my two Italian cousins say it looks like Tuscany, that`s why i call it Tuscany in the chilterns, with picturesque brick and flint pubs and farmhouses and churches dotting the landscape, perfect for relaxed pub walks, like here we have the king William, in ipsden, with probably the best views from any pub i,ve found, worth a visit great local beer and gastro pub food,

Ancient paths and sites like the ridge-way 5000 year old road or path, intersect the oxfordshire cycleway and further on the Thames path all outside the old barn, some people say they have seen monks or pilgrims walking along it , also there`s grimms dyke, a neolithic ditch or dyke, going all the way up a hill in the chilterns, separating two Waring tribes, great walk, all old ancient and very calming and restful and all around the barn, riverside walks along the thames, just a couple of fields away

Ipsden comes under the parish of walllingford and dorchester-on-thames with a huge abbey and pilgrimage centre for hundreds of years, also at checkendon there is the national horse center for riding with riding trips across the hills, taking in spectacular breathtaking views,

down in north stoke on the Thames is the springs golf course and club house, set in a capability brown grounds along the Thames, one of many golf courses in the area

theres little riverside towns and villages like Goring and Streatley, Wallingford and Dorchester-on-thames, Henley-on-Thames, Sonning-on-Thames, Whitchurch-on-thames and Pangbourne, a really pretty little lifestyle area in the chilterns where the river thames wraps around the hills, so best of both worlds, navigatable river and hills, also the river thames cuts through the hills at Goring & Streatley creating dramatic landscape called the goring gap and home of wind in the willows, but all not far from london oxford or reading, there`s many outdoor and potential lifestyle activities and places to visit , but dont worry you can just chill in the barn and relax, or take a day out in oxford , book a nice resturant, but its nice to know these things are available if you want to just do a couple of them

Getting Around

there is s a bus stop outside the barn, and runs every 30mins, either into wallingford and then onto oxford, in one direction to Reading (takes 20mins, and drops you at the central Reading train station) in the opposite direction, the London paddington to oxford train line is picked up at goring & Streatley, a couple of miles away (take 45mins into paddington from goring) and goring to oxford is about 20mins
